| BAYLISK Just outside of Escandea's sky-scraping mountains lies a vast ocean; the pack calls the area Baylisk. Each winter, the surface of the humongous body of water freezes over with sea ice. Seals give birth on that ice, and polar bears roam upon it as they arrive from their summer home in deeper Alaska. Pups are encouraged to stay away from the mighty ocean, however fun it might seem, and during winter and early spring it is often a chore for the Yunns, trying to keep the younglings away from the dangerous ice where polar bears prowl. But for the Scadi and Kirini, it's an entirely different story. The bests and most well-trained of the Scadi can sniff out a seal hole, a broken area of the ice, and lead the Kirini to it. That's when the fun begins! The stronger of the Kirini can take a few seals, feeding the pack even when winter seems to be at its worst.
During summer, the ocean is a beautiful blue-green color, gently lapping at the sandy shore or crashing violently into cliffsides a few miles away. The sunset it stunning and many come to frolic on the shore, splash in the water, have a conversation or two, and at times, just a stroll. Prey isn't very common here, since you can't drink the ocean's salty water and there's no form of food except tough, dry plants, so don't expect to catch anything at Baylisk unless it's winter! | |
